The Plateau of Gergovie

Want to get away from it all?
You are in the right place!

Come and take a deep breath of fresh air at an altitude of more than 700 meters, and enjoy a good night's sleep in one of our comfortable rooms, with a soft bed.

A little taste of the Plateau de Gergovie, how about it?

  • 2000 years of history,
  • 750 meters of altitude,
  • 70 hectares of nature,
  • A 360° view on the Auvergne,
  • Only that!

What is the Plateau de Gergovie?

This splendid natural belvedere offers a breathtaking panorama on the Auvergne landscapes: between the Limagne plains, the Sancy massif, the Auvergne volcanoes and many other majestic places, you will not be able to see anything else!

In order to preserve this exceptional place, the Plateau de Gergovie is classified as a historical monument since 2018.

What is the history of this little natural paradise?

Formerly an oppidum (fortified protohistoric habitat), this place witnessed the defeat of Julius Caesar in front of Vercingetorix in 52 BC.

Take a leap in time! A true Gallic site, this place has been particularly appreciated by archaeologists since the 19th century.
Indeed, spectacular vestiges of the Arverne city have been discovered!

Is the Plateau de Gergovie close to the Contact Hotel Lune Étoile **?

Absolutely, our establishment is located only 13 kilometers from this emblematic place!

To know:

The access to this site is free, every day of the year.
In addition, there is no risk of getting lost since the trail is marked out.

Little advice from our team:

  • Take good walking shoes. Indeed, the average duration of the trail is 3h30, that is to say a distance of 9,5 km.

  • Keep a bottle of water and a windbreaker/fleece in your bag, as you will reach the summit at an altitude of 750 meters!
Necessary if you want to stay and admire the landscape. (Which we do every time!) 😉
